When can/should I write my NBTs
NBT
Student tips
The National Benchmark test project recommends that you write your test when you are ready. The best way to determine when to write your NBTs is to look at when your closing dates and deadlines are for your degree programme.
You need to also to take into consideration the time it takes to process your NBTs, have them scored and have your results sent to your university. When you decide to write your NBTs should not be a concern, whether you write earlier in the year or later has no disadvantage to you either than getting it over and done with and also applying with enough time left.
Learners who choose the online NBT should be aware that they may be affected by load-shedding, loss of connectivity or issues with their computer. Learners should choose a date earlier in the cycle to allow additional test dates should they experience issues on a test day.
What do I bring on the day of the test?
You need to bring the following with you:
- Your South African ID booklet or foreign passport or a birth certificate with an affidavit from the police including a recent ID photograph.
- Pencils and eraser
- Water and lunch, if you are writing both AQL and MAT
- Do not bring a calculator, ruler, dictionary or other learning aid. If you require special assistance such as a magnifier or other adaptive device, you must send a written request to nbt@uct.ac.za at least three weeks prior to the writing session. Special arrangements will be made for anyone with a disability.
Where will I find my results?
The dates on which the results will be released are shown on your test schedule. Different institutions and faculty requirements determine the deadlines for learners to submit NBT results, which may be as early as June or July.
You don’t have to worry about sending your test results to the different universities you’ve applied to. Universities will receive your results directly from the NBT project.
How long is the test valid for?
The NBT test results are valid for 2 years! This is why we suggest doing your test in Matric when your knowledge is still fresh.
Can I remark?
You can request a remark on your test within 30 days of having received your results. The remark costs R250 and takes 4 weeks to process.
